Mountain Bike Orienteering opportunity - 2-3pm, Sunday 25 OctoberPlanner - Craig Pelvin, Dunedin Orienteering
New purpose-mapped MTBO map at 1:7,500 "Sandpit", mapper, Michael Wood, 2015
Bikers can do a planned course, and choose to do the additional extension loop, with ordinary control stakes, clippers and flags put out at sites. Doing both loops may take top riders only 20-30 mins. Craig will be at the start point between 2-3pm on Sunday, to sell you a map for $5 (cash only please), and if you want, time you on the course/extension. The start point will be the same as the Saturday Event Centre location. You can't do the biking on the Saturday because the Short Distance races are in the same forest (on the foot-O map of the area) If you're too tired after the Long Distance to make it along between 2-3pm, the same maps will be available for sale at the pub session afterwards, or at the club caravan on Monday, for people to ride the courses in their own time. Controls will be left out until midday Monday. Bikers can also pre-order a MTB map of the entire Naseby forest, for $5 a copy. But if you're an orienteer, we'll only give it to you after you've finished the Middle Distance event! Please indicate on the entry form in the Special Requests box if you're after one of these maps. These will be available at the club caravan.
"Alternative orienteering" seminar and drinks, Ancient Briton pub, 4.30pm Sunday 25 October This session follows a very successful format we held for the South Island Champs in 2012, a "What makes a great course" session where some of the country's top orienteers talked to a keen crowd about a fantastic course they once did, and why it was so good. We will have a screen and projector set up in the dining room of the Ancient Briton pub, and have some different special guest orienteers talk about some different kinds of orienteering, like Rogaining and Mountain Bike Orienteering. Come along about 4pm, to get a good seat for the seminar around 4.30pm.Prizegiving - certificates for the first 3 placegetters, and all 10N participants, will be given for the Long Distance event only, shortly after the seminar session. If you wish to stay on and dine at the pub afterwards, you are advised to make your own dinner booking well in advance, to give the publicans plenty of notice for catering purposes. Phone the Ancient Briton on 03 444 9992.
